KuPun Bowl

Warming the interior

KuPun Bowl

The KuPun Bowl is a small circular device designed to deliver moxibustion therapy over the abdomen. Although moxibustion therapy has been used for thousands of years, the KuPun bowl and similar products have been developed over the last 50 years to help provide focused heat therapy in a safe and convenient way. For this technique, the mugwort plant, revered for its capacity to warm deeply from the inside out, has been processed into small sticks of charcoal. Ideal for those sensitive to smoke, the mini moxa sticks provide the same therapeutic benefits as raw mugwort products but with less smoke.

Ignite

Begin by preparing a small bowl of rice to be used as an ash tray.

  • Locate your treatment point and mark using the stickers provided, eyeliner or a non-toxic marker.

  • Insert one of your moxa sticks into the top of your KuPun bowl.

  • Light the tip of the moxa stick over a candle or with a lighter. Using a matchstick is insufficient as it takes longer to light charcoal.

Stoke

Gently blow on the lit end of the moxa stick to ensure all edges are fully lit.

  • If only one edge it lit, it will burn unevenly causing the ash to fall prematurely. Re-light if needed.

relax

Once you are sure the stick is lit, lay back and relax. This is a single stick belly bowl and is made to provide a gentle warmth, rarely getting too hot for the individual. Repeat 2-3x each session or until the skin turns pink.

There are a few points where you can place your belly bowl, follow the link for more diagrams on points to use.
